Course Structure
Course Structure
We provide the online learning materials, which require a period of self-study at home (of varying length depending on the individual). Each student must focus on the five adventures they will complete to complete the specific course.
The AOWD does not have a theoretical exam, but knowledge reviews for each of the 5 adventures must be completed.
The practical part takes place at sea and requires five dives, one from each adventure. For the AOWD, there are two mandatory adventures: Deep Dive and Underwater Navigation. The other three can be chosen, but we usually do: Search and Recovery, Night Dive, and Buoyancy Control.
The practical part can be done over 2 or more days, with a maximum of 3 dives in a single day.
Dives will be carried out from a ramp or from a boat depending on the requirements (the deep dive, for example, will be carried out from a boat, since the area surrounding the center does not provide sufficient depth).

Theory
Once the course has been paid for, you will first begin the self-study theoretical portion. The process is as follows:
Once we have all your information, you'll receive a confirmation email from PADI with the material you'll need to study on your own.
Once you've studied the course, you can contact us to arrange the practical part of each of the five dives. Before each dive, we'll discuss the theoretical content with you and review the knowledge reviews.
There is no theoretical exam for this program.
Practice
Practice
The 5-dive program can be completed over a minimum of two days, with a maximum of three dives per day. However, it can also be done on separate days, depending on the availability of each student and the center.
What we usually do is include all Advanced Open Water Diver students in a communication group to inform them about the different adventure dives we're planning, and so each person signs up based on their availability and the adventure theme.
To keep in mind for these two days:
- We have showers and lockers available to store your belongings.
- It is recommended to bring food although there are also several bars and restaurants around.
- Parking is available (approximately €3/hour for a fee) at the Olympic Port, but it is recommended to come by public transport (Olympic Village stop).
Plans may be affected by weather.
